It is the way my new blog works. If you leave a comment with a URL to your website, it will be counted towards your Google PageRank™.

Now the experts reading this will know what this means. For everyone else I will briefly explain my motivation. I don't want to go into the details of Link Building and SEO at this stage. But be assured I will write a lot more about SEO for non-experts in future blogs.

As most bloggers know, blogging is not just about writing your opinion about a topic. As a blogger you want your posts to be read by as many people as possible. You also encourage discussions by allowing others to comment on your posts. Most blogs allow commenting with the author's name linked up to a website.

Initially this led to quite a lot of comment spamming of blogs: Other site owners posted comments with backlinks as a measure of link building. To discourage such spamming Google introduced an attribute to links called "rel=NoFollow". Soon forum and blog owners (or the software developers) started using NoFollow. Google is happy, Bloggers and Forum owners are happy.

Eh, ... hold on ... I am a Blogger now! So why am I not happy? Because I want this blog to achieve a high PageRank at some point. Now, this sounds like a contradiction, so read carefully:

I changed my blog template an removed the "rel=NoFollow" attribute from links

I encourage commenting with links to external websites by keeping the links "DoFollow"

This fact attracts people to my blog who just want to do link building to their site

My blog will get listed in directories pointing out that my comment URLs are DoFollow

Many directories linking in = many non-reciprocal links = higher PageRank

But let me warn you: I will close commenting at some point to each post when I feel there are too many. Also comments will be moderated and need to be in context with the post. So think before you comment!

For those of you who still don't know what I mean, check back soon for my Beginner's Guide to Search Engine Optimisation.

Temi Toys Bobby Car Shop

As some of you know, in summer I started my own online retail shop. I thought it was time to actually do what I keep preaching my eCommerce clients.

I had the intention for a long time, but never had the right product. Funny enough that I had it in my house for more than a year before I realised it: The Bobby Car. In April 2008 I wanted to get this German ride-on toy for my son. It turned out that the cheapest way of getting hold of the Bobby Car in the UK was to import it from Amazon Germany.

It was only a year later when I realised that this could be the ideal toy that the UK was waiting for (of course I would think that). The idea of BIG Bobby Car Shop was born.

Developing the website surely was not the problem. But there there is a lot more stuff to consider before starting your own eCommerce. In the next few weeks I will tell you more about my retail adventure: Marketing, SEO, link building, cross site selling, automation, third party fulfilment, courier services, suppliers. Each of these topics deserves its own story. So expect more.

Do you have any experience in eCommerce? Have you ever set up a shop? I would like to hear read your comments and please post a link to your site.

Here I am ...

So finally I have my own blog. Was about time. Not that I think that anyone of you was waiting for that. So why a blog? Why not use the Nomon website to publish what I have to say?

Quite simple: Nomon is business and the blog is Marco. At Nomon you can read about finished solutions. In this blog I will write about how to get there and what I do the whole day. Oh, and I need this blog for LinkBuilding as well. But more about LinkBuilding another time.

So if you are intrigued on how I waste my time every day, if you want to laugh about my funny English or if you just want to support me and my work, this blog is for you to read. Please feel free to share with your friends and link to it.
