DoFollow Nomtonic Blog

I believe in DoFollow Blogging!

No, it's not a new religion (well, to some bloggers it is). It is the way my new blog works. If you leave a comment with a URL to your website, it will be counted towards your Google PageRank™.

Now the experts reading this will know what this means. For everyone else I will briefly explain my motivation. I don't want to go into the details of Link Building and SEO at this stage. But be assured I will write a lot more about SEO for non-experts in future blogs.

As most bloggers know, blogging is not just about writing your opinion about a topic. As a blogger you want your posts to be read by as many people as possible. You also encourage discussions by allowing others to comment on your posts. Most blogs allow commenting with the author's name linked up to a website.

Initially this led to quite a lot of comment spamming of blogs: Other site owners posted comments with backlinks as a measure of link building. To discourage such spamming Google introduced an attribute to links called "rel=NoFollow". Soon forum and blog owners (or the software developers) started using NoFollow. Google is happy, Bloggers and Forum owners are happy.

Eh, ... hold on ... I am a Blogger now! So why am I not happy? Because I want this blog to achieve a high PageRank at some point. Now, this sounds like a contradiction, so read carefully:
  • I changed my blog template an removed the "rel=NoFollow" attribute from links
  • I encourage commenting with links to external websites by keeping the links "DoFollow"
  • This fact attracts people to my blog who just want to do link building to their site
  • My blog will get listed in directories pointing out that my comment URLs are DoFollow
  • Many directories linking in = many non-reciprocal links = higher PageRank
But let me warn you: I will close commenting at some point to each post when I feel there are too many. Also comments will be moderated and need to be in context with the post. So think before you comment!
